Why BriteLyt?

For years GSI / BriteLyt has been dedicated to the most innovative and reliable high powered, liquid fuel lanterns and accessories.

Now we’re excited to share the biggest innovation in over 100 years for liquid fuel lantern technology, the new BriteLyt Rapid500CP and 150CP series, multi-fuel lanterns. We started from scratch to design the most functional and innovative lantern the market has ever seen.

Starting with our state-of-the-art CAD engineering approach we set out to design a lantern that fixed the current lantern issues within the marketplace. Thicker brass, heavier assembly and eco bio fuel/ Viton seals & gaskets rubber. Some parts made of 316 stainless steel/ Electro polish finish are just a few of the improvements we’ve made.

Perhaps the most unique feature is our ability to burn more than just Kerosene or Gasoline. With the ability to burn bio-fuels and other affordable and readily available fuels, GSI has set itself apart from it’s competition!

When we set out to create our new line of industry leading lanterns we left no part overlooked. Every bit of our lantern’s operation and construction has been engineered to be the best available and in a world of low prices and low quality, we have set the bar for high powered, liquid fueled lanterns.

BRITELYT XL: MULTI-FUEL LANTERN

Performance Evaluation Test Report
US ARMY NATICK SOLDIER RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND ENGINEERING CENTER DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE – COMBAT FEEDING DIRECTORATE SYSTEMS EQUIPMENT AND ENGINEERING TEAM

This report describes the evaluation of a multi-fuel lantern, the BriteLyt XL, which is slated to replace the older BriteLyt lantern currently fielded with the Kitchen Company Level Field Feeding (KCLFF). This testing is being conducted to evaluate this new version of the lantern in regards to form, fit, function and performance in comparison to the original BriteLyt lantern in order to determine if the BriteLyt XL is a suitable replacement. The replacement parts of the BriteLyt XL were also compared to the same parts on the original BriteLyt lantern in order to determine if the BriteLyt XL’s replacement parts were backwards compatible. The BriteLyt XL has a Mufti fuel Patent number 9,316,367.

The evaluation was conducted by Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center in June 2013 at the request of Defense Logistics Agency through an official 339 Request for Engineering Support Form (DSCP-FC-13-65718).

Lighting Performance

Testing was conducted to determine the overall lighting performance of both the BriteLyt XL and BriteLyt against MIL-STD-1472 for recommended workspace lighting conditions; which recommends at least 325 lux in food preparation areas; which is where these lanterns will be used.

Test Environment

In order to test the light output, an Extech Foot Candle/Lux Light Meter (Model: 401025) was used. The lanterns were hung individually in a test chamber which allowed for a base reading of 0 lux when the lights were turned off. With the lights off, readings were then taken in the immediate vicinity underneath the lamp (up to 2 ft radius) and at a working level height (38 in). For testing, the lanterns were hung from the ceiling with the deflector installed and each lantern had a new mantle.

Measurements were taken from two different points vertically below the lantern: floor level and table level at several distance intervals away from the lantern. The distance from the base of the lantern to the floor was 61” and the distance to the table surface was 38”. The distance intervals away from the lantern were 0 ft, 1 ft, 3 ft, 5 ft, 10 ft and 15 ft. Figure 2 shows the light sensor position for the table level measurements and Figure 3 shows the light sensor positioned for the floor level measurements. Figure 4 shows the intervals leading away from the lantern where readings were taken.

The above display results for the light output measurements at various distances from the lanterns for floor and table level.

Test found approx. 550 watts for the BriteLyt XL

From the readings gathered, the BriteLyt XL exceeds the light output of the BriteLyt. The reflector caused the light to be concentrated in a halo in the 3-5ft range making some of the light readings in this range brighter than other readings. It should be noted that the BriteLyt was used for some time before this testing and was stored for an extended period of time and still worked.

Based on these test results, the Natick Soldier Research, Development and Engineering Center recommends the BriteLyt XL as a suitable form, fit, and functional replacement for the BriteLyt lantern currently fielded with the KCLFF.
